Biography

About Gabrielle

Vocalist and songwriter Gabrielle Stravelli blends musical traditions with a modern, genre-bending sensibility. Her tremendous swing feel and gift for lyric interpretation have led to a career defined by joyful performances and a deep connection with audiences — unexpected, highly individual choices are her trademark.

In 2024 Gabrielle made her Carnegie Hall debut with the New York Pops Orchestra and released her fifth album, Beautiful Moons Ago, with debut appearances at Scullers in Boston, Chris' Jazz Café in Philadelphia, and the Pheasantry in London. She has led five month-long residencies with her trio at Birdland Jazz Club and headlines festivals and concert halls across the U.S. and abroad.

She has toured the United States with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra performing Abyssinian: A Gospel Celebration, and has collaborated with pianist Fred Hersch since 2013, premiering his song cycle Rooms of Light. Since 2015 she has toured internationally as a U.S. State Department Jazz Ambassador through the American Music Abroad program, performing and teaching across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and South America.

Her acclaimed recordings include Pick Up My Pieces: Gabrielle Stravelli Sings Willie Nelson (2019) and the five-star, DownBeat-reviewed Dream Ago (2017). She received the 2022 MAC Award for Major Female Artist, the 2019 BroadwayWorld Cabaret Award for Best Jazz Vocalist, and multiple Bistro and MAC Awards. A master vocal teacher for the National YoungArts Foundation, she holds a BFA from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
